how to transfer and read html and pdf ebooks on iPod touch?

Posted Thursday, March 5, 2009 by admin

Please give me step-by-step instructions, including what apps I’d need to download (preferably free ones) in order to transfer the ebooks on a macbook to an iPod touch and read them. If there’s a way to bookmark, please tell me. And don’t tell me to buy ebooks from websites. If I already own an ebook, I’d like to read it. Plus it would be nice to rely on an app without wifi.

There is one great app called Mobile Files but for that you need to have mobileme account. I had this account already so for me app was free.
For this all you have to do is sign up for 60 days trial of Mobileme account on your MacBook.

App is free anyway but mobileme is free for only 60 days.

Once you install mobilefiles on Touch then follow these steps:

Copy your ebook to idisk.(On your computer)

Access iDisk on you touch while you are on Wi-Fi

    Download e-book on you Touch

    Then read them offline.

Now you can read the book even offline coz you have the book right on Touch.

Another way is to transfer your book to Google document and then access through an app called Google. It’s entirely free but the problem is you can read offline.

So, Mobile files is the best but you need to take 60 days trial of Mobileme on you MacBook.

I found another way and probably the best way.

    Install Stanza on your Mac

Then install an app Stanza from app store on Touch

then open an ebook on Mac

then enable sharing of this ebook

open stanza on Touch look for shared book you will find the book that you opened on Mac.

Now click on that book and then click on download. In few minutes the whole book will be downloaded to your phone and you can enjoy book anywhere without any internet connectivity.

I guess it depends on how badly you want your books.

You can always get Apple’s MobileMe service, which charges you a fee in order to allow you to sync your files from their servers to your iPod, iPhone, or home computer.

Alternatively, you can use Stanza, which allows you to download books from online libraries for free. You can also download books from custom locations.

    Hope that Helped!

I believe the eReader app is available for the iPod touch (at least, it’s available for the iPhone, and free). It would involve putting your files into its .pdb format (which is not the same as all the other .pdb formats, but it’ll read the plain text doc .pdb and .prc files.)
has forums a wiki free ebooks; they have a lot of people with experience transferring ebooks from one format to another and can help you figure out how to get the books you have to work on the iPod touch.
