Can you publish through ebooks, and then publish through a publisher later?

I was wondering because I wanted my book out there fast, and I wanted people’s opinion, but I also wanted it to have a chance so I wanted to go through a REAL publishing company.

Your plan to use a vanity press first pretty much guarantees no legitimate press will buy it–unless they do reprints. Usually those are reserved for authors whose early work is long out of print.

That sounds like a variation on this question:

If you want feedback on your book, a critique group is a better bet than self-publishing. Very few readers take the time to let the author know what they thought, and self-published books tend not to sell many copies. A small number multiplied by a small fraction is likely to equal zero - that is, if you self-publish, probably no one will tell you what they thought.

    No.

You have to make a choice. You don’t get to both put your book out there quick for free AND sell it to a publisher for lots of money. Why would they pay to print and publicise something people can just download?
